Today I want to talk about Emergency HVAC repair.
As temperatures soar throughout the US as does the strain on your HVAC unit.
There is almost nothing worse than your building feeling like it’s boiling, not only for your workers but for customers as well.
If your building is not cooling, you notice your lines are frozen or there is water pooling or dripping.
Here are a few things that could be going on:
Low Air Flow – This could be caused by dirty filters, and dirty coils. Having your filters changed on time can help keep them clean and air flowing properly. Dirty coils should be professionally cleaned and inspected for damage, replacement of your coils can cost 1,000 or more depending on size of unit/s.
Improperly Set Thermostat - If it is 100 degrees outside your AC can only cool 13 to 20 degrees. If you set your thermostat lower it can cause your HVAC unit to overwork.
Tripped Breaker – This one is one of the easier fixes, well sometimes. In saying that sometimes a tripped breaker is part of a bigger electrical issue.
Bad Thermostat – If your thermostat is not responding then it needs replacement.
Bad Capacitor - A broken or damaged capacitor can occur as a result of a power surge, extremely high temperatures, or overloaded circuitry. Your capacitor stores energy for the compressor.
Clogged Drain Lines - A drain line’s function is to carry moisture away from the HVAC unit. Condensation forms as the HVAC unit runs and the moisture is collected and carried to a nearby drain. But as time goes by, the drain line can get clogged with algae or debris, which can cause water to back up in the HVAC unit’s drain pan, eventually leading to overflow and damage to the unit. Overflowing water can also collect around the unit and cause damage to the roofing material.
Refrigerant Leaks - Refrigerant is the liquid chemical agent that enables your air conditioner to produce cool air. If your air conditioner is running in hot weather but your building isn’t cooling down, the issue might be as simple as a lack of refrigerant in your air conditioning unit. It’s important to get this checked quickly, because when an air conditioner isn’t cooling down the environment, it will keep running. This is hard on the unit’s condenser and can lead to more problems in your unit.
